Nine-Banded Armadillo Daisypus novemcinctus Linnaeus
The Nine-banded Armidillo has armor like scales, four toes with strong claws,
a long tail, and is about the size of a small dog. It lives in burrows near water and feeds on bugs.
They prefer moist soil in building a den, and usually have two or more dens. They have no protection
against the cold, so if there is a long freeze then they could die.

Bison Linnaeus
Bison are large mammals with a big head, hump on their back, and
shaggy fur on their shoulders.
They graze on grasses and shrubs.
Bison were found all over Texas until the white settlers came
(1800-1894) and decreased the population almost to extinction.
Now the Bison are recouperating in selected areas of the United States.
Early explorers in Dimmit County wrote that they saw bison herds where there were areas of mesquite.
