During Spanish exploration of what is now Bexar
County, Wild Turkeys were seen and recorded in Spanish travel journals.
During the Aguayo expedition of 1721, Pena noted in his journal that he had seen
deer, turkey and quail.
The turkey is a large and colorful bird found in thickets, woodlands, and prairie conditions. The Native Turkeys are most common in the Edwards Plateau.
The Blind Salamander is found in a few caves of Comal and Bexar Counties in limestone caves.
It is in total darkness; so it has adapted eyes that are buried under its skin.
It has pale colored skin, a large head, and translucent skin where the largest organs can be seen.
The Cave Myotis is found all over south to west Texas caves, old buildings, and
under bridges. The nocternal animal is seen flying around pools to drink.
Their diet consists of antlions, weevils, and small beetles. The species has
two sub-species.
