Modem:
A device used to transmit data between computers via telephone lines.
 
Server:
In a client/server network, a computer that provides and manages service such as file sharing and printing.
 
Router:
A device that makes decisions about where to send the network packets it receives.Unlike the bridge which merely passes along any data that comes its way, a router examines the address information in each packet and then determines the most efficient route the packet must take to reach its eventual destination.
 
Bridge:
A network device that connects two LANs, provided that the two LANs are using the same Network Operating System(NOS). The bridge can either be a standalone device or can be implemented in a server with addition of second network card.
