Exclusive eB4T Interview with Pete Stein Thanx Pete for the great interview! You can check out his site the Ultimate Computer Source out /25018/. If you would like to talk to Pete personally, you can email him at pstein@nettaxi.com 1. When [how] did you get interested in Business? Just to clarify, I don't really have an eBusiness. I'm currently involved/preparing to involve myself in certain "ventures," namely several site services and a communicatios tool. Most ideas were thought up by friends, who asked if I would help. 2. When [how] did you get interested in computers & the internet? I don't really have a company. A few of my work projects mostly involve myself and someone else. 3. How did you come up with the idea for an eCommerce business? There are just some obvious business ideas I could follow. Perhaps technical expertise aids a person in thinking of an eBusiness project because he/she knows what (b)can(/b) be done. Some friends have come to me asking if I'd like to join them in a project, but I'll probably pursue on my own if/when I get a computer. 4. What problems did you encounter along the way? How did you solve them? My most signifigant and crippling problem is I don't have my own computer. That's pretty much my main problem. Working on my Thinkquest entry is pretty much my solution. If I win, I'll be able to convince my family to take me more seriously, get a computer, etc. 5. [How do you measure success?] Who or what helped you most to become successful? I would measure success by how many people I reach with my work. I would be prouder to have a site that gets thousands of people a day, then making the best most unbelievable 3D game that no one uses (as a hypothetical example :). 6. How many people are involved in your company now? [What kind of people do you look for to work for/ with your company?] I don't really have a company yet... A my projects mostly involve myself, and sometimes someone else. 7. What the best thing that has come from being a teen entrepreneur? The best thing that could come from being a teen entrepeneur, regardless of the "teen" suffix, would be offering useful services or information to people. 8. What do you consider to be your biggest [most personally satisfying] accomplishment? My most satisfying accomplishment BY FAR is my site, UCS: Ultimate Computer Source (a Thinkquest 1999 entry). I don't know if it will win or not, I sure hope so, but I have worked harder on UCS than anything ever in my life... days and nights for more than a year, all available time was spent on it, and I'm very proud of the result. 9. What is your advice to aspiring teen entrepreneurs? My advice could only be some scattered tips... Don't become full of yourself, and don't take on too many things at one time. 10. What are your plans for the future? For the future, I have many hopes. Now that Thinkquest is over, I can start concentrating on school (so much for 8th grade :), which will be my top priority, as it should be for everyone. For projects, I have a few ideas. I'm co-developing an ICQ-like program aimed towards gamers. Other potential projects include a free webpage server, a computer-technical portal site, smalltime Perl script development, and writing/maintaining other misc. sites.
