Exclusive eB4T Interview with Jonathan Paul Sadowski Thanx Jonathan for the great interview! You can check his website at http://www.cheesepopcorn.com. If you would like to talk to John personally, you can email him at Jonathan@www.com 1. When [how] did you get interested in Business? Me and my friend were watching the PBS TV show Ghost Writer, and they were talking on a BBS, and I knew I had to get into computers and business. Then, in my freshman year of highschool, inspired by my typing teacher, I got into a business class (my friend joined me to get out of typing for an hour). I placed 9th place in a computer event, and was given the oppurtunity to teach junior achievement to 5th grade students in Franklin, WI, all of which were very bright, and had a great future ahead! 2. When [how] did you get interested in computers & the internet? When my dad brought home our first PC, it was only a 66 mhz, but my dad had done some programming in highschoolso he showed me around the system. Soon I was showing him how to do it! 3. How did you come up with the idea for an eCommerce business? Well, my friend and I started programming in QBasic, and we thought to ourselves, there is no possible way we could do this for free, so our first Failure/Success was CTRG (Closest To Real Games Software). I later got into looking for domains for CTRG. CTRG then fell, and I met people with experience on the topic on AOL including the owners of www.banner-x-change.net, www.easybanners.com, and www.amabilis.net. Most importantly, they were all my age, and inspired me. 4. What problems did you encounter along the way? How did you solve them? Mostly cash problems. :) Then again, one of my ideas (nicknamed: UIU, Useful Internet Utilities), was to give free subdomains. Well, obviously many people beat me to that one. 5. [How do you measure success?] Who or what helped you most to become successful? Success is how you feel about yourself. One of my role models was my uncle, a film producer. I am not really that close to him, he is my uncle by marriage. But I remember him coming to my house when I was about 9 or 10 and defragmenting our HD, and it impressed me so much. That's what I wanted to do, impress people. 6. How many people are involved in your company now? [What kind of people do you look for to work for/ with your company?] Well, I am involved with many "companies," some which are more successful than others, and some which I have forgotten the names to. Most of them relate to programming, the most successful, VDA Software. I work by myself on my domain name, mostly, I am trying to market it.. In the meantime I strive to fill it with more content, so that domain is known for its great value. 7. What the best thing that has come from being a teen entrepreneur? DEFINATELY, being recognized. 8. What do you consider to be your biggest [most personally satisfying] accomplishment? Figuring out how to get the plastic wrap off of the box that had the mouse to my PC inside. No, seriously, that was really tough! I almost started crying when I ripped the box in half, and the mouse cord went with it :o) 9. What is your advice to aspiring teen entrepreneurs? Don't ask your parents for money without expecting they'll want an equal percentage of your success. 10. What are your plans for the future? To try, to reach, to fail, and try again.
