The Net-Avenue Success Story

My name is Joshua Motta, and I am in the eighth grade at Indian Trail Junior High in Olathe, Kansas. I have been an entrepreneur since the day I was born. Lemonade stands faded away after I was five. I have places to go and people to see.

Because opening a local storefront was out of the question for financial reasons, I decided to go global over the Net. Net-Avenue was started in 1997 with only twenty-five dollars!

Net-Avenue.com is a unique shopping mall that offers an affordable alternative to traditional "shopping cart" software. Our Create a Store service allows customers to have an online catalog with full Internet shopping cart and ordering capabilities easily, affordably, and immediately.

Net-Avenue currently has five employees. The vice president handles our storefront service and supervises the marketing department. The director of marketing oversees all banner and e-mail advertising, and surfs the Net for sites that would benefit from Net-Avenue's services. We have a content editor who checks for errors on our site and our clients' sites. The accountant keeps a budget for each department within Net-Avenue. I design the Web page and make strategic company decisions. I also handle public relations.

This year, we wanted to expand our horizons so we added our Create a Store feature. Some of our visitors might think that our mall is cool and want to create a store of their own. We are fully capable of making commerce-enabled storefronts, so we thought such a feature would be convenient for our clients. They simply click Create a Store and within minutes they are up and running! This also brings in more revenues so we can continue improving our services.

Without Microsoft products, we would not be where we are right now. For example, we use Microsoft FrontPage 98 to manage our Web pages. Without this product it would take days to organize, build, and upload our pages. The broken link tool is especially helpful, and the design layout is wonderful! We make all of our graphics with Microsoft Image Composer 1.5. If we need to work on any big presentations or spreadsheets we turn to Microsoft Office. Some major clients like to see a presentation of our offerings. We can use PowerPoint to make a magnificent presentation, and with its new Web feature, we can have our clients view the PowerPoint presentation over the Net! All employees of Net-Avenue surf the Net with Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0.
