1. Meet the Internet

Meet the Flintstones... Da duh da da da DAAAA... I mean, the Internet. Whoops, who would think that you could confuse that with something so STONE AGE. Oh well, I didn't know the words to the theme song anyway.

But if you really think about it... The Flintstones, yes the cartoon stone age people, do have a lot in common with the Internet.

Okay, stop laughing... Let me explain first.

The Internet allows you to use different things or concepts to power something that might be totally ordinary. For example, instead of a whole complicated waste disposal system, the Flintstones had that cute pig that lived underneath the sink.

Now instead of building a huge brick and mortar store front, you can sign up with an Web Site Hosting company for a small price or even free, and get something like 10 megabytes to put your files on. Isn't that a lot easier then building a 10,000 square foot book store, and then buying all the shelves to hold the books?

The one thing on the Flintstones that always bothered me, was that the car was FOOT POWERED. Man, even stone age people should be more advanced then that. Shouldn't you be too?

Instead of buying a tent, tables, and shelves and then packing them all up and driving a couple of hours to an art show, and then unpacking all of your stuff and setting it up and then standing around and being all hot and sweaty, without anybody to take over for a couple of minutes while you take a bathroom break... And then repacking all of it, and driving a couple of hours home and then taking it all out of the car and putting it away.

Whew.

Now imagine if you ran an online art store, and all you had to do was package and send one of your masterpieces to a customer through the mail. You would never worry about whether or not you would get a bathroom break again!

2. Learn the Internet

Don't worry, be a geek.

There are plenty of ways to learn how to use the Internet to its full potential, but the best way is just to give into your true inner geekiness.

Inner geeks are unique. Whoa cool that rhymed. As I was saying though, your inner geek is going to be YOU. And you might prefer hitting the books, or you might prefer just jumping in.

Whatever your learning style might be, there are plenty of online and offline resources to help use the Internet to the full advantage.

The easiest and most painless way to begin using the Internet, is to surf around and smell the flowers. You could read your news online, instead of on the television or in the newspaper. You could read an online guide about something that interests you... For instance, you could learn more about gardening at Garden.com, or listen to a sample off of the new CD you want at CDNow.com.

When you find a website that you like, bookmark it. It pays off to have an archive of sites that you like, when you are stumped for ideas while building your own...

Eventually, you will see an healthy addiction forming. You will read all your news on the computer, you will research on the computer, you will sample and buy a CD on the computer, you will read reviews and buy books on the computer...

You will even form a network of relatives who happen to be "connected" also, and brag about your kids, pets, or latest and greatest gardening techniques (from Garden.com of course).

3. Love the Internet

Ahhh... You are now fully enjoying your true inner geek. You love the Internet, you love the world, when I snap my fingers you will become an entrepreneur of a new eBusiness start-up.

Heh heh... Whoops. I better quit practicing those hypmotism techniques I found on the Internet.

Now that you have learned to love the Internet (which you can freely admit wasn't HARD), you can use it to... Of course, your ADVANTAGE.

If your ears are ringing with the sound of a cash machine (CHA-CHING!), and you can see dollar signs reflecting in your eyes, then I'm sure you already have an idea of how to use the Internet.

If you haven't heard the CHA-CHING! yet, or even if you have, check out the Stories of Success in the next section, and get some ideas from the many successful entrepreneurs that are featured.

You have reached the end of this section...
Please move onto the next section, Stories of Sucess.
