1. Defining eBusiness

Hi. Before we get started, we're going to throw a couple of definitions at you, so you know what the heck we are talking about! First off, lets get eBusiness and eCommerce out of the way.

(Electronic BUSINESS)
Doing business online. The term generally means the same as eCommerce.

Ooh okay... That makes sense! What the heck is eCommerce?!

(Electronic COMMERCE)
Doing business online, typically via the Web.

Okay that's better. Let us further clarify... Oops, sorry, a text book temporarily took over my mind. Anyway, lets get our definitons of business and commerce straight.

(BUSINESS)
A person, partnership, or corporation engaged in commerce, manufacturing, or a service; profit-seeking enterprise or concern.

(COMMERCE)
An interchange of goods or commodities, especially on a large scale.

Now you've got an idea of what the heck we're talking about. Whew.

2. eBusiness & eCommerce

eBusiness. eCommerce. Are you feeling the full effect of these popular buzzwords yet? We know you've heard of some really successful eBusinesses. Maybe you have even shopped at one, such as Amazon.com, CDNow.com, or Garden.com.

"But, what does it really mean to be an eBusiness?", you ask.

Mostly, it means becoming an entrepreneur.

"WHOA, hold up!", you say. "That's another buzzword. Hand over the definition, and nobody gets hurt!".

Funny enough, we couldn't find a satisfying definition of "entrepreneur". So we're going to define it ourselves, so that you will further comprehend the true... AHH, the text book is attacking me again. Close call.

3. Entrepreneurship

Okay, you're going to have to give me a second here while I try and explain first off how to pronouce "entreprenuer". Be patient, this took us years to master.

Now, try and say it like this: on-tra-pra-nur

Practice it a couple of times, but don't get frustrated. If you can say it on your first try, you deserve an award.

So now you want to know what it means, huh? Well the definition isn't nearly as tough as the pronunciation.

Drum roll please... An entrepreneur (on-tra-pra-nur), is someone who starts and runs their own business. Usually when an entrepreneur starts a new business, it is called a start-up. Most internet start-ups (eBusinesses, or business based on the web) are based on new concepts and ideas.

Say WHAT?! For example, Amazon.com was based on a new concept of selling books on the internet. C'mon, who ever heard of such a silly thing as selling BOOKS on the INTERNET... That is, before the huge success of Amazon.com.

Now when you think of all the trouble somebody went through to make-up the word entrepreneur... Well, somebody sure had a lot of free time on their hands.

The eTrep

Okay, so now we know what an entrepreneur really is. Well we are going to throw you another buzzword, that isn't quite as well known.

eTrep.

Do you feel faint? Hopefully not, because eTrep isn't tough to say or understand. Basically it is just combining a slang term for an entrepreneur (trep) and the famous "e" of eBusiness and eCommerce.

Welcome to the world of eTreps! Please enjoy your stay.
