Atlantis, the lost continent

The people have been already interested in this mysterious civilization's fate since the ancient Greeks. I wonder whether did Atlantis really exist. If yes where was it?

( 7 Kb )According to the the ancient Greek philosopher, Platoon's account there was a huge -like a continent- island on "Herakles's columns" (Strait of Gibraltar) over the Atlantic Ocean. The island was lived by a legendary rich and advanced sea people. According to the legends when the advanced state wanted to extend its power to the whole world the gods decided that they punish it. So the huge island sank under the ocean during one night. Some people of the inhabitants escaped successful and they were the founders of the American's and the Mediterranean's culture.

( 18 Kb )But before Platoon's account there were not any important writer who made mention of the mysterious island. Platoon's story come from Egyptian source because they knew a similar story in Egypt in the Middle empire's age. Today's researches connect the legends of Atlantis to the ancient Thera island (nowadays: Szantorin). The island appertained to the former civilization in Crete and it held lively connection to Egypt. On the island there was a horrible catastrophe about B.C. 1500, a volcano erupted what probably reached the prosperous towns in Crete. The connections to Egypt were suddenly cut off and probably this was the base of Solon's story...

( 3 Kb )But in the 150 years past Atlantis appeared suddenly many times and in many places. Some people placed it to the Sargasso sea in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, someone says it can be found in the "Bermuda triangle" and according to others it is in the Indian Ocean. Some people searched for it in the South American's jungle with few success. But the researcher's majority think if Atlantis existed really it is in the Mediterranean or the Black Sea.

It is interesting to note that some pilots took photographs of strange, undersea "buildings" from the high in 1969 in the environs of Bahamas and some sea divers found old roads and pyramids under the water. But the archaeologists did not prove anything from this so far. Did they find a sank town or just a natural phenomenon? The answer is still under the water...

Maja city states (Central America)

The maja's buildings in the Peten jungle - ( 7 Kb )In all probability from the American cultures the Central American Maya city state's culture is the most amazing and strange. These city states prospered from about B.C. 300 to A.D. 700 and they hide a lot of secrets still today. Already the city's places are very strange because most of them are in the thick and impenetrable jungle and the buildings and avenues were placed with astronomical knowledge. I wonder unknown people sing. who did not know the wheel and the metal devices how could establish a so prosperous culture?

Their steps pyramids -what they used as church- and the statues and the wall engravings which are in them still make surprised the today's people.

The Gods's place - ( 9 Kb )The Maya's astronomical and mathematical knowledge is more mysterious: they used number system type 20 and two calendars -they connected the ritual lasting 260 days calendar in 52 years old cycle to a general calendar which consisted ! 365 ! days. Their celebrations and calendars were connected with their gods - mostly they symbolized the Sun and the Moon. During their religious ceremonies often there were number of casualties. Later the arrival people sing. (example the aztecs) took over this convention.

The Gods's place - ( 7 Kb )Doubtfulness encircles the Maya's genesis, they probably wandered to the Yucartan-peninsula from the north. But as they arrived mysteriously and suddenly they disappeared as mysteriously and quickly, and they left wonderful towns after themselves. They left their towns in the twinkling of an eye which they built with hard work during centuries. Did it happen natural catastrophe or were they chased away by foreign people sing.? Nobody knows the answer...
