In
|
, when white play 1 , white will increase his territory by the 3 marked space
because if you compare with
.gif)
, which is when black play 1 , white will have to lose
his territory by the 3 points and black increase his territory by 3 marked space . Hence , a move like white 1 will be 6 points (3 from gain in territory + 3 from destroying opponent's territory . )
Notice that when black play at a , white will have to respond at b in
.gif)
In the above diagram, if black does not respond to white 3 , then white will play as follow in
.gif)
The value of white 1 in the last diagram is 14 because if it were black turn , black can play at 1 in

and subsequently in

and would have reduce white territory by 7 points and increase own territory by 7 points .
Therefore , the general formula for evaluating the value of a move is to add how much points this move can bring with how much points from opponent, this move can destroy .
