Something about weiqi.com...
The idea of a weiqi project was initiated by BoonWah early this year. He approached his friend Kaojie to discuss about the feasibility of this project. Kaojie is an experience weiqi player who has won numerous prizes in local competitions. The search for a third member, preferbly of another nationalty was called on. Huang Xin soon joined the team. Our teacher advisors Ms Goh and Mr Yu are computer teachers in our college. They supported our ideas and gave us assistance in setting us the server in school...

The design...
The design of Weiqi.com is such that it has to be neat (appalling to the eyes) and fast. Our main concern is how we can provide more stuff on weiqi. Usually these chess games do not have interesting writeups to do.
Hence, we decided to challenge ourself. The Network Game.
Programming was difficult, only Xin knew the basics of Java. Nobody,
even our coaches knew naything about Java networking. We have
to start from scratch. After months of research on books, we have
come up with something more concrete. A workable but buggy game.
Nevertheless, we continued to work hard to come up with this network
game... but we are not able to put this into the ThinkQuest server.
Cooperation...
Cooperation? Somebody say we are a local team ( everybody knows
each other and it is easy ). No, Xin returns to China during the
June vacations, Kaojie and Boonwah seldoms meet. Everybody has
their own busy scheludes. Communication is always depended on
ICQ, emails and etc.
The Satisfaction...
Well, everything should have its meaning... by doing this page, we think we have done our bit to promote weiqi as a game for everybody on this world.
Something we should let everybody know...
Nobody is perfect. We admit this site may contain grammar and spelling errors. But it is difficult to check such a massive site.
We try our best to support all browsers. But since we use quite a lot of script in our coding, we regret that only IE and Netscape 4 and above are supported. We have tested everything on this site using IE 5 on a 800 x 600 resolution.
Last but not least, the Network game is really our own creation. You may seen this in Yahoo! games and some sites but this is really our own masterpiece, hence including the source files to prove to you. Should you use our program, please tell us, we will not charge you if you are not charging others to use this program. By the way, the server is run on a P150 with 32MB RAM on Windows 95, hence the speed of the connection. And we decided to limit to only 100 players.

Weiqi.com is a ThinkQuest project by
Boon Wah, Kaojie and Xin
of Hwa Chong Junior College Singapore. All rights reserved ©1999. No part of this project may be stored in any means in a retrival system or modified without the consent of the team.
And lastly... all html files on this site is written in a text editor and not some nice program like FrontPage... to challenge ourselves. Also graphics are done by ourself with Corel PhotoPaint 8.
