The Concepts of Fiction Fantasy.....

In Fiction Fantasy, we are introduced to various new concepts, all dreamt up by the authors of the series, some interesting and new, some relating to realistic situations, and some that relates to real-life subjects. Sadly, there are not much new concepts in Dragonlance, besides that of fiction and fantasy, magic and steel. However, Dragonlance by itself is nice enough already, so it des not really need any new concepts to make it more exciting.

In Dragon Prince / Dragon Star, we are shown how Rohan tries to make peace throughout the land, and we are shown how they eventually realise that no matter how civilised they are, they are all barbarians; just like the Vellant'im army that was invading their kingdom, they did invade other kingdoms at one point in history so as to create a kingdom of their own. Rohan and a few others realise this sad fact, that they are actually barbarians clothed in silk, and try their best to create peace in the land. Sadly, Rohan dies at the start of the war with the Vellant'im, and Pol becomes the High Prince. Pol does not understand what his father did, and seeks only to prove himself in war, and though he eventually triumphs, his barbaric nature is shown too. This novel is also about self-realisation, how one discovers and eventually understands oneself and one's own nature.

Lastly, in Heralds, we are introduced to many new concepts. Firstly, we have the concept of homosexuality, the concept of preferring one's own sex, displayed in the term shay'a'chern, meaning one whose lover is like one's self. Then there is the idea of lifebonding, to be lifebonded to somebody. This happens when two people see each other, and a bond is formed between them, a strong bond of love that will withstand all trials. There is also the concept of the Havens, the nether realm, where Heralds go to at death, which is a lot like our religious concept of Heaven. Also, there is the idea of the Bardic Gift, the ability to influence the emotions of others through the use of music, literally, the idea of music as magic. And lastly, as is shown in the Winds trilogy, there is the idea of one making one's own fate, of creating one's own destiny.

So many new concepts, all shown in Fiction Fantasy, along with the usual concepts of magic, fantasy, and pure fiction.
