Heralds of Valdemar.....

"Heralds in White, on their White horses, with their mind magic, upholding justice....."

            The Heralds in Valdemar are in charge of upholding justice. Armed with their mind magic and a good knowledge of fighting, they ride out to the Border, guarding Valdemar against all harm and settling minor disputes. Heralds are chosen by their horses, sentient beings that choose to resemble horses so as to aid Heralds in their mission of peace. Therefore, Heralds come from all walks of life, and are all definitely good people, no matter their appearance, for the horses would never choose evil people to be their Chosen. Valdemar's law also states that the King and Queen must also be a Chosen, so as to make sure that Valdemar will always be peaceful, and the Monarch will always have an assistant he or she can trust completely, the Monarch's Own.

            Not grasping any of this? Actually it is rather clear-cut, so you can just go read the series, which is really great, and find out in greater detail what is happening in your own free time. Anyway, there are many different series, each talking about a different issue, all linked by time. It's kinda hard to explain in words like this, so just sneak a peek at the Books section to clarify things later on. The Heralds are something of a community, along with the Bards and the Healers. They are the three main centers for learning in Valdemar, but the Heralds are special, anyone can be a Healer or Bard, as long as they have the gift and aptitude for it, but to be a Herald, one must be of good heart, have some mind-magic (check out the Magic section in Comparative Studies) and have a strong sense of justice. To be a Healer, one must have the gift of Empathy or Healing, and to be a Bard, one must have the Bardic Gift.
