Recently encryption has become a "common" technology. What this really means is that the word has become a common item in computer vocabulary, not that everybody is using it.
The majority of computer users do not use encryption. Most users probably have no idea that they can. Those that are aware of the ability to use it probably aren't sure what the purpose would be.
Tales of the Encrypted is intended to present a purpose for cryptography. The site is intended to put cryptography in a historical context that gives meaning to what the technology is and what it can do. Our hope is that by illustrating what cryptography has done in the past, people will begin to realize what it might do in the future.
Tales of the Encrypted hopes to bring the world of cryptography to the home of everyone who has been ignored by the rest of the Internet.
