Yasuní
is the largest national park of Ecuador, covering an important
area of the tropical forests of Ecuador. The various habitats
and small hills of Yasuní were formed by the rivers Yasuní,
Tiputini, Nashiño, Cononaco and Curaray, all tributaries
of the navigable and wide Napo river, the northern limit to the
park. The Napo river basin is one of the areas of Amazon rainforest
that remained untouched in various ice ages, due to which many
species migrated to what is now Yasuní National Park. For
this reason, Yasuní is one of the most densely populated
and biologically diverse regions of the world. In Yasuní
there are also many Huaorani reservations, with the objective
to protect the customs and way of life of these indigenous people.
