PROBLEMS IN OTHER PARKS & RESERVES

- Mangrove forests are subject to deforestation in order to create pools for shrimp breeding.

- Global climate changes, such as ozone layer holes, kill certain reptiles and amphibians.

- Deforestation by lumbering companies endangers many plant and animal species.

- Mineral and oil extraction contaminates many protected areas.

- Shepherding erodes the land and creates deserts in previously fertile lands.

- Local farmers burn areas of vegetation and their inefficient farming erodes the area.

- Ranches or "haciendas" use chemical fertilizers that contaminate the land and rivers.

- Some tourism companies create garbage and bring more tourists into forests.

- Hunting of many species, sometimes ignorantly as with condors, endanger animals.

- Overexploitation of some medicinal plants has endangered them.
