TOURISM
AND RECOMMENDATIONS
From
the city of Quito one can arrive directly to the towns of Cayambe,
west of the reserve, or Papallacta, south of the reserve. In Cayambe
there is access to the Puruhanta and San Marcos fishing lakes
and to the Cayambe volcano. A 4WD car is able to get near its
refuge, from where it takes up to ten hours to get to the summit.
The climb has taken many lives and should be done at night to
prevent the avalanches that occur with softer, melted snow. Papallacta
offers relaxing pools with hot spring water.
