Recent studies show that Cayambe — Coca is the reserve with the greatest plant and animal diversity in Ecuador, although only 50% of the species have been registered yet. The reserve is influenced by the Amazonic plains to the east, while at the same time it encloses the volcano Cayambe, the third largest peak in the country. In the nine habitable life zones, rivers are born that eventually get to the Atlantic or Pacific oceans.
