GENERAL INFORMATION

The name of Cajas derives from the lake formations similar to boxes (translated as "cajas" to Spanish), since they are located between elevations that cover a great area of the national park. There are 232 lakes and lagoons, the most important ones are Lagartococha, Osohuaycu and La Toreadora. There are also many rivers that cross the area and interconnect the lakes, the bigger one being the Tomebamba.
