Ionisation


     Objective
      To study the ionizing ability of the three types of radiation

     Materials 
     Americium (alpha source)
     Strontium (beta source)
     Cobalt (gamma source)
     Radium (alpha, beta, gamma source)
     spark counter
  
     Procedure 
     1. Hold these sources in turn above the spark counter
     2. Observe the frequency of sparks produced by bring each 
         source close to the gauze.
     3. Insert a piece of paper in between the source and the gauze.

     Do you know?
     1. Which source produces the most sparks? What radioactive 
         particles does the source emit?
     2. What is the purpose of inserting a piece of paper?
