A peace treaty with Vietnam was finally reached. President Nixon brought a halt to all military operations in Vietnam. Representatives of South Vietnam and the United States and North Vietnam met and agreed on peace terms. Prisoners of war were released from both sides and the United States withdrew the last of its forces.  

South Vietnam falls.  

Following the U.S. departure of Vietnam, the South Vietnamese government finally fell to the North Vietnamese government in 1975. It took roughly thirty years for the Vietnamese to achieve their independence from outside powers, but finally they had succeeded.
