Light and the Eye

When light passes from one transparent medium or substance to another, it bends. How much it bends depends on the angle at which the light strikes the boundary between the two substances and the properties of the substances. This bending of light when it passes through a boundary between two substances is known as refraction. Lenses make use of refraction in order to magnify and focus images.
