Renaissance Composers

( At least we got a few here )

Josquin Desprez

This guy's name sound pretty depressing or maybe desperate but trust me he is an acclaimed  composer of the Renaissance era.

Josquin, who was a Flemish,  was rumoured to be born in Beaurevoir near St. Quentin in 1440. He died in Conde in 1521. In his life span of 81 years, He wrote many masterpieces.

When Josquin was young, he went under the tutelage of Okeghem (another Flemish). He was a singer in Milan Cathedral in 1459-1272 and was the member of the Papal Chapel, Rome in 1486-1499. He also served King Louis XII of France.

Though his life is relatively long, this is all what we managed to get from him other than the fact that he ended his life as a provost (Don't ask us "what's that again?"), collegiate church at Conde.

Josquin wrote many works. He wrote over three volumes of masses, (Wow!) over 100 motets (Wow again.) and many Chansons (English Dance). His early contrapuntal style gave way to more expressive manner. His sacred polyphony exercised great influence in the music of that era.
