Renaissance Composers
(At least we have a few here)
Thomas
Weelkes
Funny name that makes a person sound like a weakling but this guy is certainly tough enough to stand out among the other big names like Palestrina and Desprez to be recorded.
Thomas Weelkes, an English composer was born in 1575, in London (You should know where) He was a composer and an organist (Proves the fact that composers are enterprising people). He first worked as an organist in Winchester College in 1600. He wrote 6 part madrigals such as As Vesta was From Latmos Hill Descending. His Ayres shows a lighter satirical side to his art. One of the greatest of English madrigalists with daring harmonies and imaginative expressions. He wrote much church music including many anthems notably, Hosanna to the son of David. 3 part songs like Death has Deprived me of my Dearest Friend in the memory of Morley( a fellow composer)are also his famed works.
Weelkes was buried in St. Brides, Fleet Street, London, England.
