IntroductionYou have the best web site on the web (or you think so anyway :). However, nobody seems to be streaming in. Your guestbook is still empty. Your hits counter is less than 10. Something is wrong. What? Promotion. A web site is like a product. In order for it to "sell" well, advertisement is extremely important. Remember that there are billions of web pages on the internet. Without promotion, you'll need lots of luck for anyone to find your site. You have probably heard of banner exchange programs. These certainly help but the ratio of the number of times your web site's banner is displayed and the number of banners you need to display is always very low. We show you a more fundamental but often ignored way of doing this: The META tag. This powerful tag can affect your standings on search engines such as Yahoo!, Infoseek, and Hotbot.
