Ancient Times
Agricultural development began in China long long time ago. It is believed
that in the Ancient Times, Shen Nong Shi (¯«¹A¤ó)
invented lei si (left), a tool used for ploughing. He also taught
people how to plant different kinds of crops. Although this is only a legend,
archaeologists made a lot of discoveries in the Huang He Valley and the
Chang Jiang Valley in recent years. They discovered fossils of stone knives
and stone sickles, as well as those of rice and vegetable seeds. These
discoveries tell us that early in the New Stone Age, the Chinese had already
knew about farming.
