Is there something like evolution?
Have you sometimes heard your Christian friend telling you how God created life and talked about Adam and Eve, the first humans? Later when you strike up a conversation with the class science wizard, he tells you that all of it is balderdash and that humans and present life forms have evolved from single celled creatures. In effect, both views confuse the common man. But then some view must be wrong! This has been the controversy since Charles Darwin published his work " The Origin of Species " which introduced the concept of evolution boldly. But this confusion is only due to the ignorance of the citizen and people who distort the actual facts. Let us see if evolution really exists, and if so what consequences does it have on the origin of life on our planet Earth.
The fundamentals of creationism are that God created life on earth and that He played a part in evolution. God is supposed to have created life in 6 days in the Garden of Eden. Most creationists claim the age of the earth to be between 6000 to 10000 years old. There are actually many theories of creationism which have the same ideas that God supervised the creation of life, but differ upon how old the earth is and how the different species were created. For example:
1) Day Age theory - This theory states that the 6 days as in the book of Genesis, are not actually days of 24 hours each but stand for thousands of years. This theory was proposed to counter the attack on the basis of geological age by Darwinians (people who believe in Darwin's theory of evolution).
2) The Gap theory - It expresses the view that there was a huge gap between the creation of life and creation of Garden of Eden in 4000 BC.
3) Flood geology - There was a great Biblical flood during which all the marine creatures drowned, the earth split apart and the fossils are remains of creatures which drowned in the flood. The other creatures were taken aboard the Noah's Ark and were released back onto the land when the flood subsided.
4) Catastrophism - It says that large-scale changes in the earth's crust are to be explained by violent, unrepeatable geologic events, such as the biblical flood. Creationists and evolutionists have always been at loggerheads with each other and each one expresses his own view. Religious beliefs and science have always contradicted each other, and therefore one can never be sure which one is actually right. For more on creationist arguments, click here. Beware, unless you have a basic idea of evolution and genetics, it might not seem easy to comprehend. Now read on to learn about Darwin's theory of evolution.
