SCIENTIFIC CLASSIFICATION: True frogs make up the family Ranidae.

TIME PERIOD: The first frogs came on earth 180 million years ago.

HABITAT: They live in every continent but for Antarctica. Most of them live part of their life in water, and the rest on land.

DESCRIPTION:

It's a frog's life.

Frog's are cold blooded and hence their body temperature is the same as that of the surrounding. Therefore, in extreme cold they hibernate. They live on the material found in the body tissue. They generally mate in the rainy season. Most mate in the water. The males calls their mate from there. A Female frogs respond only to the call made by males of their own species. After the female arrives, the male clings to the female's body and fertilizes the egg as they come out. The eggs hatch in 3 to 25 days. In most cases, a tiny tailed young frog called tadpole emerges from the egg. Many eggs are laid with a protective coating and the eggs with the coating is called spawn. Most of the times, the eggs and young tadpole are eaten, leaving only a few growing to become frogs. In some species the eggs are carried till they hatch either in the vocal pouch, or the legs or on the back. Tadpoles are not the totally developed frogs. Often the cling to some support in water with a tiny mouth or sucker. A tadpole has no neck and the body and head is like one round form with a tail ( resembling a fish ). In the beginning, tadpoles breathe by gills. Later, legs form and the internal organs grow. Then, the legs grow and the tail disappears. Frog variety. Frogs and toads may look alike, but they have some differences.

. There are many species of frogs. Some are tree frogs, some are poisonous, some are more than 5 cm and some are bigger. Frogs with humans Frogs help us in a number of ways : They eat insects. They provide us with food ( atleast for some people). They are used in scientific research. But far from helping them, humans destroy them ( along with the other animals they destroy! ). They destroy their homes, the breeding places and pollute the home's of frogs.

ITS PART IN EVOLUTION TABLE: Frogs come under the class Amphibia under Vertebratea under the Animal Kingdom.
