The USSR has won a record three men's titles (1964, 1968, 1980 and 1988).

The most women's titles is four by the USSR (1968, 1972. 1980 and 1988).

Most Olympic Medals

The record for the greatest number of olympic medals won by a volleyball player is four, by Inna Valeryevna Ryskal (USSR), who won women's silver medals in 1964 and 1976 and gold medals in 1968 and 1972.

The greatest number of olympic medals won by male volleyballers is three, by Yuriy Mikhailovich Poyarkov (USSR), who won gold medals in 1964 and 1968 and bronze in 1972, and by Katsutoshi Nekoda (Japan), who won gold in 1972, silver in 1968 and bronze in 1964.
