Basketball
The USA has won 11 men's Olympic titles. From 1936 to 1972 they won 63 consecutive matches until they lost 50-51 to the USSR in the disputed final in Munich, Germany. Since then they have won a further 37 matches and had another loss to the USSR (in 1988).
The women's title has been won a record three times by the USSR in 1976, 1980 and 1992 (by the Unified team from the republics of the ex-USSR) and the USA in 1984, 1988 and 1996.
