Softball

The rules of softball are basically the same as those for baseball, but there are several significant differences.

  1. Baseball: the pitcher throws overhand
  2. Softball: the pitcher throws underhand

  3. Baseball: ball weighs 9 ounces.
  4. Softball: the bal, although larger in circumference, weighs between 6

    to 7 ounces.

  5. Baseball: the pitchers mound is 60 feet from the home plate
  6. Softball: Th pitchers mound is 40 feet from the home plate

  7. Baseball: bases are 90 feet from each other
  8. Softball: bases are 60 feet from each other.

  9. Baseball: the infield is covered in grass
  10. Softball: the infield is covered in dirt

  11. Baseball: designated hitter may be used for a pitcher only
  12. Softball: designated hitter may replace a player

  13. Baseball: outfield fences are well over 200 feet from home plate
  14. Softball: outfield fences are 200feet from home plate

  15. Baseball: regulation play lasts for 9 innings

    Softball: regulation play lasts for 7 innings

Softball was introduced as an Olympic sport in 1996. It will be played in the Sydney Softball Centre, in Aquilina Reserve in Blacktown. This suburb is situated in Sydney's West.
