Badminton Badminton is played on a court 44 feet long and across a net 5 feet 1 inch high at the post, which sags 1 inch at the centre. The playing area is 17 feet wide for singles and 20 feet dor doubles. Players use a racket to hit a leather overed cork-tipped shuttlecock that is topped by 16 goose feathers taken from the same goose. Shuttles travel at a speed in excess of 150 miles per hour - much faster than the other Olympic net sports like, tennis table tennis and volleyball. Men's games and women's doubles are played to 15 points; women's singles to 11. Points may be scored by the server. If the score of ties ta 13, the first player to reach 13 has the option of "setting" the game to 5, meaning the first player to score 18, rather than 15, wins. If the score is tied at 14 the first player to reach 14 can set the games to 3, so that play continues to 17 instead of 15. Badminton was introduced to the Olympics in 1992 It will be held in Pavilion 2, which will be located in Sydney Olympic Park. Badminton:Top 5 Countries
