Archery
Archery first appeared in 1900, but it was not included in the 1912 Olympics. Contests were held in Continental style, with each archer shooting a single arrow at a time in competition order, as against the British method of three arrows at each turn.
Men and women compete in FITA rounds. A FITA round consists of 144 arrows, comprising of 36 each, over a distance of 90m, 70m, 50, and 30m for men and 70m, 60m, 50m and 30m for women. From 1988 medals were decided by the scores in the final round of 36 arrows.
