The Olympic Movement
The supreme goal of the Olympic Movement is to contribute to building a peaceful and better world by educating youth through sport, practiced without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit which requires a mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play. On the 23rd June 1894, Baron Pierre de Coubertin created the supreme authority of the Olympic Movement, the IOC. This was done at the Paris Congress. The 23rd June is a day that is celebrated annually around the world as International Olympic Day. The Olympic movement includes International Sports Federations, NOC's, like the AOC, the organising committee's of the Olympic Games (OCOG's like SOCOG), the national associations, clubs and people belonging to them, particularly athletes. The Olympic Charter is the codification of the fundamental principles, rules and by-laws adopted by the IOC. The charter governs the organisation and operation of Olympic Movement and stipulates the conditions for the celebration of the Olympic Games. The official languages for the IOC are English and French. Related Links: Also: | ||
