- Consists of a white background with no border, with the Olympic symbol appearing in the middle.
- The first Olympic flag was made in Paris, at a shop adjoining the Baron's birthplace.
- Three-metres long, two-metres wife, the flag first appeared officially in Paris on the 20th Anniversary of the re-establishment of the Games in 1914.
- It was first hoisted over an Olympic Stadium in 1920, during the Antwerp Games.
- For the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul a newly commissioned Olympic flag made from Korean silk replaced this flag. The design remained the same.
- It was this flag that Altanta Mayor Bill Campbell handed over to Sydney's Lord Mayor Frank Sartor at the Closing Ceremony of the Atlanta Games.
- The Lord Mayor brought it to Australia under Federal Police escort.
- Carried by the white-gloved hands of some of Australia's best-known Olympians, the flag was paraded before the people of Sydney in August 1997.
- Since then, the new Olympic flag has been kept in a high-security vault at Westpac Banking Corporation in Sydney.
- An exact replica of the Olympic flag is currently touring Australia on The Olympic Journey series of street parades, picnics and exhibitions, embracing all Australians in the spirit of the Olympic Games.
