Types of Preventions

Primary

 Eliminate those personal, social, and cultural factors that contribute to development of eating disorders and related conditions.

Develop individual and social"strengths."

 

Secondary

Identify the "warning signs" of a disorder.

1.) Recongnize those signs

2.) Effectively reach out to the suffering person

3.) Collaborate with him or her in finding effective treatment

 

Tertiary

1.) Make an effort to prevent a disorder from becoming a condition, primarily through treatment and support.

 

2.) Arrange for teachers, physicians, students, coaches, coworkers, etc. to relate in a supportive and otherwise helpful manner to people discharged from the hospital and/or participating in continuing treatment.
