For thousands of years, man has used various ways to perfect livestock and
animals. Breeding is essential for farmers to produce the best of the best.
It is difficult to come across a domesticated animal whose characteristics have
not been influenced by humans. We have taken advantage of selective breeding
in animals to produce great results; why don't we do the same with ourselves?
If we could somehow control what characteristics our future generations possessed
and created a close-to-perfect race, our lives would surely be much better.
By simply choosing with whom we breed, we could possibly eradicate undesirable
qualities such as alcoholism, epilepsy, and serious deformities.
Think it's too good to be true? Well, in the early part of the century, scientists
were seriously looking into this path toward perfection, also known as Eugenics.
The following section will go more in depth on the subject of eugenics, exploring
its positive and negative effects.
