Post-war Russia, Cold War
Since its foundation in 1917, non-communist countries had distrusted the USSR. During WWII, the USSR and the USA formed an alliance against their common enemy. However, when the war ended, tensions between the West (the USA and its allies) and the East (the USSR and its allies) were soon rekindled. In 1947, the US sent troops to Greece to fight communist guerrillas there. Then, the US issued the Truman Doctrine, which offered support for any groups fighting communism. The struggle between the East and West became known as the Cold War.
