2. Dams

" Manic 3 ", stopping builds
on the Manicouagan river in the
province of Quebec

The stoppings constitute the most important works ever built by the man to use water. The stoppings are general-purpose, they make it possible to control the level of a river to have a constant flow, to bring water to the cities, to irrigate close grounds or to produce electricity.

Man A always built of the dams on the banks of the rivers to protect it from the whims of water, but the stoppings of today have nothing to do with these dams.

The stoppings are structures costing several hundreds of million francs.
There exist several types of stoppings:

Stopping-weights with triangular profile which resists water only thanks to their own weight

Stopping-vaults of form convex

Stoppings with buttresses formed of a system of buttresses of profile suitable

Then stoppings in fill made up of materials found with their proximity
