Welcome to a world where everything you thought you knew is wrong. Here, there is no such thing as "common-sense," or at least no one listens to it. This "ordinary" world is stranger than your wildest dreams. Pink six-toed elephants? Boring. How about a place where the faster you go the longer you take (relatively) and the bigger you become. A world in which no one will ever draw a perfect circle, and where a straight line is really an oval. You won't find this world in a science fiction novel, because science fiction writers don't have the imagination to conceive it. No, this world was created by one man, and to touch it you only have to reach out your hand. This is your world, the world of Relativity, and this site is devoted to it.

Those who want an easy (well, as easy as you can get) explanation of the Theory of Relativity should visit the Easy section, or for a more detailed, and more mathematical (you have been warned!) description, visit the Advanced section. To see how Relativity is being used, go to Applications, and look at Implications for an analysis of its effects on Science and Philosophy. In the interactive section of the site, the Lab, we have simulated many experiments displaying Relativity and its effects, or talk about the Theory in Discussion. The design of the site is meant to take you through the pages in a logical sequence, so there are back and forward buttons on the bottom of nearly every page. However, if you feel the need to jump around, the see also lists next to the buttons will take you to related articles in other areas of the site. You can swop to the other versions of the site (text and accessible) and hop around freely using the mini bar underneath the heading on every page.

Finally, the site is meant to help you learn Relativity as well as possible and we are, unfortunately, only mortal so there probably will be places where you will be a bit confused. If so, just post a message on that page's discussion forum (every page has one), or in the generic forum, and somebody should help you out.
