In front of the Victoria Concert Hall and the Victoria Theatre, stands a century-old bronze statue of Sir Stanford Raffles. A bronze elephant on a rectangular pedestal, which was presented by King Chulalongkorn of Siam when he visited Singapore in 1871, once occupied the prominent position. The Elephant moved to Dalhousie Obelisk, which was erected in 1850 to commemorate the visit of Marquis of Dalhousie.
The bronze figure of Raffles was officially unveiled on 27 June 1887 in the middle of Padang but was only placed in front of the Victoria Concert Hall on 6 February 1919.
The Victoria Concert Hall is adjoined to Victoria Theatre. The Concert Hall and Theatre were named after Queen Victoria of Britain. Performances are still regularly held at the Concert Hall and Theatre.
