Pulau Ubin

More than three times the size of Sentosa, Pulau Ubin is spread out over 1,019 hectares in the Straits of Johor, off the eastern corner of the main island. The island has never rally been a resort, though students do come over for outings. Pulau Ubin has long been an industrious island. Its granite quarries have been worked on for many years. Today, the granite is cut way below sea level. Pulau Ubin used for rubber plantation was once a source of income for the islanders, it has been struck to almost nothing as it has been cleared for other uses.

Man-made embankments delineate modern prawn farms on the island and just offshore these farms are what the local s call "live" seafood restaurant where delicious food is served.

The island now houses the Outward Bound School where young adventurers come for training. One can pitch his or her tent almost anywhere on the island or stay at the seafood restaurant’s resthouse or at a Longhouse which takes up to 10 people in dormitory-style accommodation. Canoes, sailboard and other sports equipment can be rented while canned drinks, sweets, sundries and fresh produce are available from the town area near the jetty.
