The Merlion, half lion and half fish, was created as a symbol of the country. AS the official emblem of the Singapore Tourist Promotion Board, it is found on souvenirs. The Merlion is an eight –metre tall white sculpture spouting water in the Merlion Park at the Mouth of Singapore River. The Merlion symbolises the beginning of Singapore. The Merlion’s lion-half tells a story of the city while the fish-half represents Singapore’s beginning as a port.
