Rattan is a rope-like climbing plant and is also woody. It can grow to be up to 600 feet long! Rattan is collected from the rainforest and its stems are boiled in an oil and then polished in sand and sawdust to remove natural gums and resins. The outer skins of Rattan are then removed to weave furniture, baskets, screens and chair seats.
