Animals of the Amazon Rainforest:

The Poison Dart Frog

The above pictures are a Poison-dart frog (French Guiana). These small frogs usually can grow to an inch (3 cm) or so long. They can be blue, red, pink, green, gold, or purple in color. While most species produce skin poison that can make a person sick, there are a few frog varieties that make a strong poison that can kill. Babies hatch of the backs of their mother's skin. When the tadpoles hatch the stick to the mucus glands on their mother's back.

The poison dart frog is endangered because their habitat is being cut down. To keep them from going extinct the National Aquarium is breeding these frogs.
