    Make Your Own Rainstick!

Rainforests get lots of rain, but in some places people had to use rainsticks to remind the gods that rain was welcome. You can make your own rainstick by following the directions below!

Materials:

~ an empty paper towel tube, or an empty toilet paper tube

~ 1/2 pound finishing nails or toothpicks the length of the diameter of your tube

~ hammer

~ rice, seeds, and beans of various sizes

Directions:

1.) Hammer the nails in a random pattern all over your tube. If you are using toothpicks put glue on the ends so that they stay in place.

2.) Cover one end of the tube. Cut cardboard circles and tape it to the end securely or cover it with paper.

3.) Pour 1-2 cups of the your rice, seeds, and beans mixture.

4.) Cover your open end shut.

5.) To finish your rainstick be creative! Cover it with wrapping paper, scraps of paper, buttons, glitter, or paint!
