Western Rainforest of Belize

The Western Rainforest of Belize has a variety of exciting fun exciting things to do! Including major Mayan ruins, mountain caves, herbal trails, rivers and wild life sanctuaries, this place is pretty cool. Here you will find a wonderful scenic combination of cool pine forest, handsome streams, luxuriant river valleys, many caves and beautiful waterfalls.

The best known waterfalls are the Hidden Valley Falls, a narrow chute of water falling over one thousand feet. To the south of this reserve is the spectacular Rio Frio Caves and Rio on Pools. Here you can go swimming in a series of mini pools which create many falls.

If you are a hiker you will enjoy the Panti Medicine Trail and Ix Chez Research Center. These are both located on the bank of the Macal River. The center has been engaged in the formal study of medicinal plants for some time now.

There are many Mayan ruins here in the rain forest. One of the ancient Maya's most supreme city, Caracol, is almost right in the middle of this rain forest. Besides Caracol, there are many other major ruins exist in the area, such as; Xunantunich (Maiden of the Rock), Cahal Peach, El Pilar, Chechem-Ha and most notably "Tikal" (the largest and most spectacular of all the Mayan Sites) which is probably about two hours from the Western Belize border in Peten Guatemala.
