The climate of the mountain unit Matcha is moderately-continental
and in foothill districts-is warm, there is an abundance of the sun. The summer is hot,
but without sultriness. The winter in the mountains is cold with frostes. The whole year
in Matcha is devided on two periods: cold-damp(November-April) and warm-dry(May-October).
On the whole territory of foothills up to height 1500 m from May till October the weather
is warm or hot with temperature from +10o to +30oC. From November
till March it is cold-from
1o to 6o degrees above zero. There are about 2 or 3 months with
temperature above 10-15oC on heights 3000-4000 m. The maximum temperature of
warm and dry period of the year on heights 2000-25000 m. is about +25oC. Autumn
in the mountains is dry and not cold. One of features of climate is an uneven distribution
of precipitation on territory during the year usually. They drop out in cold period, their
general number is about 300-900 mm, biggest part of them is on the north of mountains.
The flora of Matcha's mountains is peculiar. There are many forests
near the rivers and reservaies where poplar, willow and grass grow. The mountain steppe is
on the heights 700-2000 m. In the desert dustricts near the bottom of mountains
(from 300 to 800 m) where the number of precipitation is small, there is a lot of vegetation
which lives only in spring. There are many weeds, bushes and other plants. There are steppes
and forests on heights 2000-3500 m. A lot of nuts grow on the slopes of mountain spines.
The meadows occupy the territory of spine till the height of 4500 m. A lot of grass and moss
grow here. On the hight above 4500 m there are only rocks and snow.
The best time for travelling is from the end of July to September.
In this period the bad weather is very rare and not longer than 2-3 days. You can organize
the journey of different level of comlexity in that part of Pamir.
Many tourist would like to visit Zeravshansky glacier. However the big
spines lock all simple accesses to it from north, south and east. It's only from the west that
you can reach Zeravshansky glacier. But it takes several days from Zeravshansky valley to
glacier. Usually unmounted part of hiking tourists want to go to mountains from the west then
from Samarkand to valley of river Zeravshan is one day by automobile.
Tourists must know and remember that all roads are complex and you
should have a good car and a qualified driver [2-3].
Good luck to you!
