Leonardo
da Vinci
Leonardo da Vinci was a
painter, sculpture, and
architecture, as well as a gifted engineer. He was also a pioneer inventor and a true
Renaissance man. Leonardo is perhaps best known for his paintings. His works, including the
Mona Lisa and The Last Supper, are some of the most celebrated and valued pieces in the world.
Along with his art, Leonardo was fascinated by technology. His interest in technology may have been more important to Leonardo than his
art. Da Vinci designed many machines that could never be built
in his lifetime because of the limited materials available during in the
16th century. Leonardo has been credited with designing the airplane, the helicopter, the
parachute and the submarine. Leonardo's greatest contribution to these inventions were
his ideas. If nothing else, he allowed future generations to think about this sophisticated
technology.
