Evolution Myths -
Part 2
Myth 6: If the precursors or life were
concentrated in a small pond, called the primordial soup, life
would naturally evolve.
- Fact: thermodynamics precludes such
evolution. Furthermore, even if the molecules could be synthesised,
they would not encode the necessary information only when it is
finished it will discuss this myth in detail. Most competent
scientists have rejected the idea of the primordial
soup.
Myth 7: The atmosphere of the early earth was
without oxygen.
- Fact: the evidence for this is questionable
at best. Some of the earliest known rocks show that oxygen was
present. Photosynthesis does not explain the emergence of an oxygen
rich atmosphere.
Myth 8: Self-organisation and non-equilibrium
thermodynamics can account for the origin of life.
- Fact: Self-organisation and non-equilibrium
thermodynamics are not viable theories because the necessary
precursors for life are too diluted by both time and space. Also
neither can account for the information content necessary for the
origin of new genes.
Myth 9: The information in crystals or in
clay substrate served as templates for the first genes.
- Fact: Information theory will be used to
show that repetitive structures like crystals contain almost no
information. Thus, this theory does not explain the information
content of genes.
Myth 10: The building blocks of genes (the
steps in the DNA ladder) specify complexity through chemical
interactions, which influence the order of the DNA
sequence.
- Fact: Information theory precludes this
theory from serious consideration. Furthermore, these mysterious
chemical interactions have never been found or
observed.
